The Austrian family-owned enterprise Haas Food Equipment GmbH, with its headquarter in Leobendorf near Vienna, is globally renowned for its machines and associated services for the manufacture of wafers, biscuits, sweets and dairy products. Currently Haas Food Equipment has several subsidiaries in Europe and overseas. The manufacture of the end products requires complex machinery and equipment of the highest standard.
Initially a specification sheet for the Windchill PDMLink and SAP interface was put together in cooperation with the process planning, production and purchasing departments. The machines and equipment of Franz Haas Food Equipment require a high number of in-house and purchased parts which must be stored and managed simultaneously both in Windchill PDMLink and in SAP, enabling constructors to thoroughly define the engineering bill of materials in the Windchill system. For the standard parts in the SAP system a centralized maintenance was also required.
In the selection process Haas Food Equipment decided in favor of INNOFACE for the implementation of the interface. Techsoft Datenverarbeitung GmbH was chosen to install Windchill PDMLink. In addition, for easier administration and localization of the standard and purchase parts, the strategic part administration program PARTsolutions by CADENAS was introduced.
INNOFACE's PDMLink – SAP interface was customized to the processes of Haas Food Equipment. In the first stage the interface includes the main functions number assignment, document, material master, release, modification and bidirectional update of the standard and purchace parts. The implementation of the function bill of materials was postponed in order to reduce complexity but is set to be introduced at a later stage.
The creation of the viewing files for the document management in SAP was solved with Innoface's Release Engine. Released drawings are filed as PDF in SAP. Additionally the release engine creates an STL format for every CAD model which has been released. This format is used for the geometrical search of similarity which is also based on the CADENAS technology.
Furthermore a mass plot and a mass export were ordered from INNOFACE. The mass plot enables the output of released drawings in PDMLink. It is also possible to select the drawings of all components of an SAP bill of materials. For printing and plotting the plot management solution CIMGRAPH by TECHNODAT from Salzburg (Technische Datenverarbeitung GesmbH) was linked to Innoface's mass plot. With the mass export, drawings as well as exchange formats such as DXF from drawings and STEP from CAD models, which are based on a part selection in Windchill or on an SAP bill of materials, can be converted and exported in one package.
For the initial synchronization of both systems INNOFACE executed an extensive mass processing of legacy data in which all construction-relevant SAP material master records were created in Windchill as WTParts and then linked with the CAD models. The former drawing archive was completely transferred into the document management of SAP. All former drawings in PDFs were stored as WTDocuments in Windchill. The enormous data volume and the time-consuming mass processing of legacy data was a particular challenge. After some loops of optimization the mass processing of legacy data could be carried out within the required time frame.
Production commenced in summer 2011. An update to Windchill 10 and the implementation of the BOM functions is planned as next steps.
